Veterans Day

The guns on the Western Front stopped on November 11, 1918. The United States kept the date and widened it to all who have worn the uniform. Memorial Day is for the dead. Veterans Day is for those who came back — and for the families who kept the house standing.

A Marine’s oath is to the Constitution, not a man. Public-school teachers who served, volunteer firefighters who served, shop-floor leads who served: those are living American stories of perseverance. They do not need to be famous to be honored.

If you served, or your town has a veteran whose quiet excellence belongs in this archive, send the story. The calendar has a day. The site has room.
