The classroom is a civic machine

Greatness is not only founders and astronauts. It is a teacher in Volusia County walking a class through the Bill of Rights, the Civil War, and why a majority still does not get to vote away a neighbor’s speech.

Michael Gist did that work as a public-school teacher after Marine service. The through-line is the same oath: the people are the boss, the document is the limit, and the next generation has to inherit both.

If the Constitution is unique, this is how it stays that way — not by marble, by classrooms that refuse to turn civics into a party script.
