About

Gist of America is a civic project by Michael Gist — Marine Corps veteran, former public school teacher, lifelong Volusia County.

Michael Gist

The work is simple to state. Collect American stories that are true enough to stand in a kitchen: what the country built, how ordinary people carry it, how it learned after it failed — and why a free people under a Constitution is still a rare bet in the world. Greatness comes from keeping that document — not from feelings, not from agendas, not from a court that has chosen a team.

Michael took an oath to the Constitution as a Marine, not to a man. He later taught other people’s children in public school. Those are public stories, not campaign copy: the greatness of America is a person using the creed, then handing it on.

He is a realist about the world. International means relationships between sovereign nations — the construct that has let peoples err, bargain, and grow. A worldview of global elites dictating from above does not allow that give-and-take, because the people who live with the result cannot vote the authors out. Freedom is a people remaining the boss of their own house, then dealing honestly with the house next door.

Facts on this site come from experience and from the record — Grokipedia, the National Archives, statutes, official histories — not from socialist, communist, or activist rewrite shops. Read the method.

This is not a campaign website. It does not ask for a vote. It does not take political contributions. Merchandise funds the writing and the archive.

A prior campaign site remains the record of the 2026 race for Florida’s 6th. That chapter is closed. This chapter is the country.
